Rudraksha - benefits of wearing

Rudraksha is derived from two words RUDRA and AKSHA, Rudra meaning Lord Shiva and aksha meaning eyes in Sanskrit, generally Rudraksha is considered to mean the tears of Lord Shiva.

One legend says Lord Shiva was meditating for many years, when one day he opened his eyes to look down on earth, at this point out of compassion several tears fell down and grew to become Rudraksha trees.

The Rudraksha is the most auspicious and energized bead, which Lord Shiva has given for the benefit of mankind. It’s believed to link heaven and earth. The miraculous properties of the Rudraksha are mentioned in the ancient Indian scriptures such as Shiva Maha Puran and Jabal Upanishad.

The fruit is blue in colour but can be green or turn purple with age. The trees grow in Java, Borneo, Sumatra, Nepal and various parts of India.

It is said in the scriptures that Hindu yogis wearing these beads experienced tremendous amount of tranquillity and inner peace which helped them meditate in a focused manner.

Originally there were 108 types of Rudrakshas in the form of different faces, known as mukhis this can be counted by the series of lines across the seed, but today there are only 38 types. Each mukhi has different electrical impulses. Most Rudrakshas are five faced which usually made into a necklace of 108 beads, one of the rarest being the one faced symbolizing Lord Shiva himself. The Rudraksha possess mystical and divine properties and creates a protection for the wearer.

Scientific evidence of Rudraksha’s benefits:
Many people have found just by wearing the Rudraksha one feels calm and peaceful. Rudraksha is known to cure ailments like blood pressure, stress, anxiety, depression, palpitations, lack of concentration, etc. The bead enhances the powers of concentration, orients the mind towards attaining prosperity, boost confidence and energy levels, and is also known to increase the ability of speculative thinking. One of the best known research papers was published by Dr. Subhas Rai of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras, India. Dr. Rai’s research confirmed that as scripted in the ancient scriptures, Rudraksha beads do possess powerful electromagnetic, paramagnetic and inductive properties. Rudraksha bead has gained significance as a mode of healing. Blood circulation
and heart beats automatically induce a magnetic field around the body and particularly the heart region. Accordingly, a balancing force is exerted on the heart to regulate it, if it starts beating above or below normal rates. This action helps to ensure ideal blood circulation in the body. Depending upon the polarity and intensity of the induced magnetic field, Rudraksha beads transmit subtle electrical and inductive impulses with opposing polarity and intensity. When Rudraksha beads are placed over the heart, they act to stabilize the heart beat. Thus, the stated beneficial effects of the Rudraksha bead have been proved scientifically as well.

Traditionally the Rudraksha bead or mala is either given to his student by a guru or prescribed by an astrologer or a person of similar status. Nowadays people can also find there correct Rudraksha by either using their Nakshatra (Indian Lunar based astrology), or by seeing a Vedic astrologer. Rudrakshas counteract the malefic effects of planets more so than gems. It is said each mukhi has different vibrations. Depending upon the situation of one’s life, there are combinations for business, education, attraction, protection and many more.
